International competition for young opera directors “Nano-Opera” will take place for the seventh time!

Moscow Musical Theatre “Helikon-Opera” under Dmitry Bertman together with the Moscow Government and the Department of Culture of Moscow announces the launch of the VII International Competition for Young Opera Directors “Nano-Opera”.

In 2026, the competition starts on May 18 — on this day, the draw of participants will be held, on May 19, 20 and 21 — I, II and III rounds, on May 22 — the award ceremony and the gala concert of the winners.

The VII International Competition for Young Opera Directors “Nano-Opera” is held in four rounds. At the qualifying round participants present an explication of one opera scene from the classical opera repertoire, 2 typewritten page in two languages – Russian and/or English.

The explications are sent to: nanoopera@mail.ru by April 01, 2026.

The jury’s decision will be published on the websites: http://nano-opera.ru and www.helikon.ru no later than April 10, 2026.

The participants passed the qualifying round will go to the Helikon-opera theatre from May 18 to May 23, 2026.
